Zelkova carpinifolia

Zelkova carpinifolia è un albero alto fino a 30 metri, aspetto imponente e una fitta chioma che arriva quasi sino a terra. Foglie decidue, alterne, ellittiche, lunghe 5-9 cm, con apice acuto e margine dentato. Pianta monoica: i fiori maschili sono disposti in glomeruli sessili, ascellari, giallo-verdastri; quelli femminili sono solitari, ascellari, verdognoli. Il frutto è un achenio legnoso, subgloboso, asimmetrico, apicolato, di 5-8 mm.

Zelkova carpinifolia is a tree growing up to 30 m tall; has a trunk that usually divides into many upright branches just above the ground. It has smooth, grey bark that sometimes peels off in flakes. The young branches have a dense covering of short, soft hairs. Leaves are thick, dark green on the upper surface, paler on the lower surface and have bluntly toothed edges, to 5-9 cm long.
